| BOW DOWN YOUR HEADS! PLANET OF THE APES REVIEW |
[05 Aug 2001|12:43pm] |
| PLANET OF THE APES! | | STORY | I have never seen the original, so I don't have anything to compare the remake to. Personally, I liked the story. | | DIALOGUE | Outside of the mandatory pep talks and heart warming speeches, the dialogue was in the background. | | CINEMATOGRAPHY | I am going to say the most obvious feature was the lack of bright happy colors. There were lots of nice dark colors to set the tone. The sets were really well done. | | MUSIC | Danny Elfman from 'Oingo Boingo' is a minor deity. I can't believe a leader from an '80's punk band has crossed over into the world of film tracks. | | SPECIAL F/X | Amazing! I personally like how they got the 'Apes' to zip around without looking cheesy. When the 'Apes' were in 'Attack Mode', they moved like blurs. All very convincing. | | FINAL COMMENTS | Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. It looks like I'll be back in the theater to see this one again on the big screen. Or I'll just wait for the DVD. If Planet of The Apes doesn't win any awards for the costumes and make-up, I'll really be disappointed. | | PLANET OF THE APES! |

THE MOVIEI spent two hours watching Meet Joe Black with my wife last night. I thought it was a great movie, because there were several stories happening at once:
- Love interest
- Business deal
- Family Issues
- Birthday Party
- Facing Death
THE VIDEO TAPEMy wife used aPANASONIC SUPER-GT160 to record Meet Joe Black. This is a really cool tape because it has a TIME LEFT scale on the case, so you can see how much RECORDING TIME you have left.
THE MAIN EVENTBefore taking her shower, my wife inserted a brand new video tape into the VCR and told my daughter to hit the record button once Meet Joe Black started - my wife has tried to record this movie several times before. Well my daughter does as she is instructed and records the movie.
After putting the kids to bed, at about 10:30 PM, we sat down to watch the movie. We got comfortable and hit the play button. About halfway through the movie, I set the VCR to display the time left on the tape: It read 1hr: 01min. My wife said not to worry because it wasn't that long.
FAST FORWARD TO LAST 2 MINSThe movie is coming to it's climatic finish with four out of the five stories wrapped up. The final story is about to conclude when the tape stops and goes into automatic rewind mode. That's right, the end of the movie got cut off! The tape had run out!
Of course my wife apologized profusely.
THE CAUSEBefore going on vacation, we unplugged all of our electrical applications. Of course, when we plugged them back in, everything was reset to the default factory settings. What this means is, the (S)tandard (P)lay mode was selected instead of the Extended Play mode!
FINAL COMMENTSMy wife will be going to the video store to rent Meet Joe Black.
